My subject’s name is Sahvanna Mazon. I met her at the beginning of the year on accident. I walked into the ASG office by mistake trying to buy a media print card. I had said out loud that I was into photography which was why I was looking for the card. She picked her head up from behind her desk to offer me a job on our Associated Student Government as a staff photographer. I contemplated it, along with my already busy school schedule. I told her that I would think about it then came back 40 minutes later to tell that I was interested. I got the job two weeks later. I started getting to know her over the next couple of months and found her to not only be a sweet and genuine girl but, that she was very driven and extremely busy. She is currently working towards being a creative writing and English major with a focus on literature for children. She logs well beyond standard hours being an Officer of Marketing for ASG, in addition to taking five classes; some of them in honors. I wanted to highlight this aspect of her life but, also bring about some humor to the photo. It was also by happenstance that we traveled down this particular aisle of the library and that I picked out the book for her to pose with. The way I executed the shot was also very indicative of who and how I am in her life; Someone who knows what I know about her but is still on the outside-hence the voyeuristic style of shooting. She has so much to do and is setting herself up for such a bright future and she’s 10 years younger than me. It’s nice to see someone so excited while being so incredibly busy. But, I did want to remind her to take a look around and laugh. To remember that her life is just as important, if not more so, than her studies.
